Carthage Water & Electric Plant's (CWEP's) Net Energy Metering (NEM) program helps you reduce your monthly electric bill with the energy generated by your own private solar energy system. A special net meter measures the difference between the amount of electricity your system generates throughout the month and the amount of electricity CWEP supplies. We calculate your bill using this difference, called net energy. At the end of the month, you are billed for the difference or the ‘net’ amount of electricity used over the month’s time.
The value of the excess electricity generated by the solar energy system and delivered to CWEP will be credited to the customer’s account at their current applicable electric rate. Our Net Metering Application (PDF) must be approved by CWEP prior to interconnection for safety and reliability purposes.
