Net Metering

What Is Net Metering?

CWEP's Net Energy Metering (NEM) program helps you reduce your monthly electric bill with the energy generated by your own private solar energy system. A special net meter measures the difference between the amount of electricity your system generates throughout the month and the amount of electricity CWEP supplies. We calculate your bill using this difference, called net energy. At the end of the month, you are billed for the difference or the ‘net’ amount of electricity used over the month’s time.

The value of the excess electricity generated by the solar energy system and delivered to CWEP will be credited to the customer’s account at their current applicable electric rate. Our Net Metering Application must be approved by CWEP prior to interconnection for safety and reliability purposes.

How do I sign up for Net Metering?

CWEP should ALWAYS be consulted before installing a renewable energy system that a customer wants to use for net metering. Please fill out our Net Metering Application if you are planning to install a renewable energy system in the future, contact CWEP by e-mail at customerservice@cwep.com or phone (417) - 237-7300 with any questions.

Understanding your Net Metering bill:

When the monthly electric bill is calculated, if the customer uses more energy than is generated, the customer pays only for the net kilowatt-hours (kWh). If the customer generates more kilowatt-hours(kWH) than is used from CWEP, then the customer receives a credit for the surplus kWh, which is applied to the next bill. In addition, the customer is required to pay all other applicable charges and fees pursuant to CWEP's current rate schedule.
