CWEP Receives National Commendation for Mutual Aid Efforts

Carthage, MO – Thursday, July 31^st, 2025 — Carthage Water & Electric Plant (CWEP) has been nationally recognized by the American Public Power Association (APPA) with a Mutual Aid Commendation for its support in electric power restoration efforts for City Utilities of Springfield.

In response to widespread outages on Sunday, June 29^th, caused by severe storms, CWEP sent five dedicated linemen—Jeff Moore, Justin Ralston, James Pittman, Jake Brunnert, and Tristain Hartman—to assist in the restoration efforts. Crews worked 16-hour days alongside many fellow public power utility personnel to restore service to affected customers quickly and safely.

“Mutual aid is more than just a program—it's a cornerstone of the public power community,” said Chuck Bryant, CWEP General Manager. “When our neighbors are in need, we don’t hesitate to lend a hand, just as we know they’d do the same for us. We’re honored to receive this recognition, but even more honored to serve.”

The Mutual Aid Commendation recognizes utilities that have answered the call for assistance and exemplifies the spirit of public power—neighbors helping neighbors. Established in 2018, the award highlights the dedication, expertise, and community focus of public utilities across the country.

CWEP participates in APPA’s Mutual Aid Network, which coordinates support among more than 2,000 public power utilities during emergencies. This program ensures a rapid and organized response when disasters strike—locally or across the nation.
